262, this was on aol today

MessageAuthor

Top 20 Worst Cars of the 80s, 11-20 12345678910 Volvo 262, 77 - 81 Just in case you had missed Volvo's safety message, they fitted a tank's turret-top to the 262. Amusingly badged as a coupe, Volvo tried to pretend it was a luxury GT. In fact its vast weight meant it had very little performance, its handling was the wrong side of mediocre and its styling was the worst ever used on a Volvo - and it was up against some pretty stiff competition

"In the eye of the beholder!" & "To each their own". The New York Times had a like comment early this year," "Rust in Peace.....". Hemmings Motor Magazine countered with just the opposite assessment. For balance there are a good number of 262C fans around the world that would beg to differ. Many who posted on this forum. As for knocking the performance, I drive a 1980 262C and continue to be impressed with its' performance. Not bad for a 27 year old classic. Not the fastest off the mark, nor the slowest. I challenge anyone to beat its comfort & ride (except for very tall drivers). 262 bashers just make the fans more loyal. "Worst ever...", not even in the running! Even Ford Edsels have fans. Would you believe that the AMC Pacer is fast becoming a cult car. Go figure! Devoted Volvo Bertone Coupe 262C Fan Bill

Circa: 1948). Didn't he make his fortune designing & producing revolving tank turrets for the US Army? Some cars are like a fine wine that improves with age!
