making it a turbo

MessageAuthor

If you have a 740 turbo intercooler and 740 gle sitting next to each other. both 2.3. what is the best way to transplant the turbo to the gle. full engine swap or just turbo and intercooler? does it work?

RE: making it a turbo

If you have both and the Turbo engine is ok I would swap the lot. There are a few differences in the block for the oil drain on the turbo and the cam will be different. I did the swap on my 940. You will probably need the Turbo's wiring (engine bay and dashboard), exhaust etc. If your car has ABS you might need to swap all the brake pipes over as well to put the pump on the left hand side of the car. Fuel pumps will probably be different as well. It's a hell of a lot of work but if you have a complete doner car it can be done properly.

I see. When I get the chance I will put the rest of the doner car I used back together. It's not a bad car but it's had some paintwork done on it and it's generally scruffy. Perhaps you could do the same, someone could probably make use of it.

Should be swapped as a whole. Compression ratio is different (pistons) and also valves.
